First Baptist Church Dublin
The minutes of Poplar Springs Church, under date of the February 1831 meeting record that brethren from Dublin had asked for help in organizing a church in Dublin. The official deed book records the sale of one acre of land by Jeremiah Yopp to Bolin Hobbs and John Woodard, deacons of the Dublin Baptist Church, the consideration being ten cents and the date February 9, 1831. On this acre of land was erected the first church, a building which was unpainted with a plain interior and rude exterior, unceiled walls and overhead, wooden benches- often of puncheon, sawed out by hand, a high up closed box pulpit with a window just over the preachers head. This was used until a much larger building was constructed in 1867, which served the church for forty years. The beautiful Melrose Abbey in Scotland was the inspiration for the new building, started in 1904 and completed in 1908, which is the present house of worship.

Jefferson Street Baptist Church
On October 1919 Jefferson Street Baptist was organized with fifty charter members. Sponsored by First Baptist Church, the organization sermon was preached by Dr. R.L. Baker, Pastor of First Baptist, and the presbytery was made of T.J. Barnette, W.C. Harville, Dr. Feldman, and the deacons of First Baptist. The first building was the former church occupied by the Presbyterians on the corner of North Jefferson and Columbia Streets. Purchased by First Baptist, this was presented to Jefferson Street and has been the location of the church since that time. A building program was begun during the pastorate of Rev. Earl F. Stirewalk, 1942-1947.
